There is a very large green space, Margate Park, along the lake on the eastern border of Edgewater that connects to Lincoln Park via the Chicago Lakefront Trail Greenway. Margate Park encompasses several beaches, harbors, and green spaces with lawns, plenty of trees, and walking trails that are ideal for area residents with canine companions for walking. There are even a few designated dog-friendly areas located here.

Puptown Dog Park is a fenced off-leash dog park with facilities for local pups to enjoy. There is also a dog-friendly area on the waterfront known as the Montrose Dog Beach. Pups participating in beach play must have an inexpensive "Dog-Friendly Tag" which is available from local veterinarians, ensuring dogs are vaccinated and free of communicable disease. This is a unique opportunity for local pet owners to play in the water with their off-leash dogs that is not available in many urban communities or beaches.
