Greater Grand Crossing sits on the site of a former railroad crossing between two rail lines where, back in 1853, a feud between two railroad companies led to a nasty crash between the two lines that included the death of 18 people. As a result of this, trains on both lines were required to stop at the junction and before long, a community sprang up around the area.
