Top dog walkers in Prairie Shores
Wag! Walkers know Prairie Shores
Prairie Shores is a large apartment complex on the shore of Lake Michigan right across the street from the Dunbar Vocational Career Academy High School and separated from the lake by a vast truck marshalling area. The area is located near the Loop and offers outstanding views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. There are pet supply stores, dog parks, and restaurants all within easy driving distance. You will find several parks within the area, some within walking distance, and others you will have to drive to. Along with this, there are several colleges keeping the apartments full most of the time.
Summers here can be nice and warm with temperatures in the 80s, but winters can be harsh with weeks of below-freezing weather and plenty of lake effect snow, ice, and wind to deal with on a regular basis. You can count on several feet of snow each year to keep you and Fido happy.
What is the terrain like in Prairie Shores?
The terrain in Prairie Shores is flat between the various apartment buildings, but there are plenty of sidewalks for you and Fido to walk on that can take you all the way from one side of the community to the other. Keeping with this concept, you and Fido can also stretch your walks out to include the trails in Burnham Park that run alongside the lake.
With summers here hitting the 80°F mark, having a shady area to walk in means keeping your pup off the 135°F+ pavement and saving their paws from what could become serious burns. The rest is making the most of what you have to work with and extending your walks as you and Fido become ready to do so. The opposite applies to walking during the winter months where you may find you need to teach them to wear booties or risk them getting frostbite on their paws.
How many greenways are there in Prairie Shores?
In essence, the entire community of Prairie Shores is one vast green space. The designers made sure there were plenty of green spaces between each of the buildings. You and Fido can enjoy short walks around the community on the lawns and greenways or you can take a walk along E. 31st St. to Burnham Park. The park measures 600 acres and sits on the lakefront. Along with plenty of grass to play on, there is a trail running the length of the park where you can enjoy a walk while keeping an eye on the many boats out in the lake. This is an amazing place to get in your daily exercise and it's only a short walk from your apartment.
Just on the other side of E. 31st St. is Lake Meadows Park with tennis courts, a baseball field, trails, and plenty of carefully manicured grass for you and Fido to romp around on.
