While Roscoe Street, running East to West, is home to many of these diners, cafes, and shops, the rest of Roscoe Village is not rented out by commercial businesses, but rather families. Public elementary schools and parks round out the list of reasons families decide to plant roots in this charming area.
Dog-friendly apartment buildings and duplexes and traditional red-brick homes allow for pets. Taverns, bistros, and bars reiterate the Village's acceptance of lovable mutts and adopted breeds of all kinds by offering dog-friendly seating.
Although Roscoe Village isn't much of a shopping destination, the pocket neighborhood is known for its resale shops and kid-centric stores which typically specialize in recycled fashion for children, toys, and books.
But while the roads and sidewalks may not be pristine, the city does a lot of maintenance in the summer to make up for the harash winters. Many simple errands can be run within Roscoe Village on foot or bike. If a quick bite to eat out is on the agenda, it's likely a locally-owned restaurant is just within a 5 to 10-minute stroll away. Be sure to call ahead and ask about dog-friendly patio seating as some places have different restrictions or ideas of what "dog-friendly" may mean.
Lois Klein Park, or simply Klein Park, straddles the borders of both the Lake View and Roscoe Village neighborhoods. Located in an area with nearby schools and young families, the park can become crowded after school hours. Small and without much grass, this park may be better off for children rather than puppies. But, if your dog is well-behaved and you're visiting the park with children in tow, there's space to sit and watch the kiddos have a good time.
Fellger Park is a larger playlot than Klein Park, which also has a water feature for young teens and tots to play in and cool off in the heat of summer. Fellger gives humans the opportunity to enjoy a community pool, sports fields, and footpaths. Walk or jog through the neighborhood-favorite with your pet and enjoy the people-watching.
