Top dog walkers in Wentworth Gardens
Wag! Walkers know Wentworth Gardens
Wentworth Gardens was the final stage of housing built by the Chicago Housing Authority in 1945. The apartments were initially developed as housing for war-industry workers. To create the complex, the CHA bulldozed more than 20 structures including the original home of the Chicago White Sox. Today, their home in U.S. Cellular Field abuts the community on its west side. The White Sox have a reputation for being the only major professional sporting franchise to remain in the same neighborhood for over 110 years.
As a small closed community, there are plenty of sidewalks running between the buildings for you and your dog to wander along including the Wentworth Gardens Park in the middle of the community if you need a little space to play in. The other half of what used be the Wentworth Gardens is now parking for games at Guaranteed Rate Field, home of the Chicago White Sox.
What is the terrain like in Wentworth Gardens?
The terrain here is very flat with centralized parking between buildings and lots of sidewalks for the two of you to wander along. The entire complex is filled with grassy areas where you can take your dog for a walk and go potty, just remember to clean up after them! The community borders I-90/Dan Ryan Expressway, one of the busiest highways in the city, so keeping your pup on leash is important.
Flat ground offers those with low-energy dogs a gentle way to exercise and become fit enough for a ride over to the lakeshore where there are miles of trails, parks, grassy areas, and beaches for both of you to explore. On the other side of the interstate, there are several extensive areas of grassland for you to play on, but you will need to drive there as Pershing Road tends to be very busy and may scare your pooch.
How many greenways are there in Wentworth Gardens?
Being a purpose-built community, Wentworth Gardens lives up its name with plenty of grassy spots scattered throughout the buildings. In the center of the community sits Wentworth Gardens Park with one baseball/softball diamond, a basketball court, and sizeable areas of grass to play on.
To find larger areas of grass for your hound to play on, you need to cruise over to the other side of the Expressway where you will discover Metcalfe Park which offers trails, trees, and lots of grass to run around on. The park also has a baseball field, tennis courts, and basketball courts for you to enjoy at the same time. To the north of this park are several large grassy areas that could prove to be fantastic places for you and your dog to play fetch or frisbee on when you need a little more exercise than just going for a walk. No matter where you go, there are plenty of options.
