West Humboldt Park is part of the larger community area of Humboldt Park and is located on the west side of Chicago. This community is active in holding community events, parades, block parties, and festivals celebrating its culture. There is also an active community organizer called 'The United Blocks of West Humboldt Park' that is dedicated to the improvement of the community and communication between neighbors and government. With active local organizations and new businesses along main thoroughfares throughout the community, many residents enjoy strolling the neighborhood on foot with their pets to visit shops and services.

While summer and fall weather is usually cooperative in Chicago for on-foot travel,  winter in Chicago sees many days with below-freezing temperatures and snow and winter storms may occur. Spring can be rainy because of Chicago's proximity to Lake Michigan, so be prepared for the weather in Chicago if you and your dog go exploring West Humboldt Park on foot.

West Humboldt Park is defined as being west of Pulaski Road, north of Chicago Avenue,  south of North Avenue, and east of Cicero Avenue. There are railroad tracks on the west side of the region and a large commercial and industrial area on the west side. Large commercial areas are not pedestrian friendly, however, most of the neighborhood is comprised of residential and small businesses that are well distributed throughout the area along main arteries.

Homes in the neighborhood tend to be multi-family, multi-story, walk-up apartments with some single-family residences. Streets in these areas follow a standard grid pattern and the terrain is flat. There are sidewalks for pedestrians and their pets to traverse the neighborhood, and with no steep climbs and straight streets, walking is easy for residents and their pooches regardless of ability. This well-established neighborhood has mature landscaping and large trees. Trees in fall provide beautiful colors and a scenic backdrop for people traveling the neighborhood on foot.
