Description
Abiquiu Dam and Lake is located in Abiquiu, New Mexico and is a large lake, recreation area, and campsite with an abundance of activities for the whole family. The lake and reservoir are 5,200 acres, providing tons of room for boating, fishing, kayaking, and of course, swimming! You will find rocky beach areas along the lake that your dog can run on, although do not expect vast, wide and soft, sandy beaches with lots of room to roam. This lake is more for swimming and splashing in the water.

Around the lake and park, you can find fossils up to 2 million years old, and you have some of the best views of the Carro Pedernal here as well. Red sandstone formations dot the area and the historical Pedernal Mountain rises over the horizon. You get a fantastic scenic experience when taking your dog to play in this lake and it makes the perfect opportunity for lots of pictures and enjoying natures to its fullest.

You will not find any restrooms or showers by the beach or lake, but you do have access to picnic areas, a playground for the kids, walking trails, a watersport area, and a boating area. There are not many trees in this location, so shade is sparse. It can get awfully hot in the summer, so keep this in mind if you bring your dog to hike any of the nearby trails after playing in the lake and at the beach. Always have cold, fresh water for drinking so they remain well hydrated and do not overheat. Poop bag stations are around the park as well, making it easy to clean up after your dog. Throw poop bags away in the trash so you keep this stunning park and beach clean and sanitary for all visitors. Please remember you must keep your dog on a leash at all times, even when they are swimming in the lake.

Overall, Abiquiu Dam and Lake is a breathtaking beach and recreation area that you and your dog are sure to love. Just keep in mind wide, sandy beaches are not the hallmark for this location. Instead, the draw is the lake, rock formations, and mountains visible from this area.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
