Description
If you consider yourself a true beach-lover, you won't want to miss out on a trip to Barrett Beach/Talisman! Centrally located smack dab in the middle of the Fire Island National Seashore right on Fire Island, this pawsome beach park welcomes people and their pooches to come join the fun on their stunning sandy shores! You can find this pawsome spot between Water Island and Fire Island Pines. You'll have to catch a ferry or jet off in your private boat to access this furrific spot as it finds its home on an island. Ferries leave from ports in Patchogue and Sayville, and can transport your pup for an extra fee too. There is also private docking for boaters.

Once you land on the coast, you'll need to be prepared for a stroll along the boardwalk with your main canine squeeze, but at the end of your journey, you'll land directly on a pawsitively awesome expanse of beach! Fido may join you on leash, whether it's on the boardwalks, in the sand or in the sea. You'll also want to take note that dogs are not permitted on the ocean beach during nesting season which is defined as March 15th through Labor Day. During this time, dogs are still allowed on the ferries, water taxis, and boardwalks, and on the bayside beach. While not as wide and spacious as the ocean beach side, the bay side beach is lovely for a walk.

There are so many wooftastic things to do at Barrett Beach/Talisman that you won't know where to begin! You can grab your best canine pal and head along the sandy banks in search of seashells or even some clams to take home. The waters are also ideal for watersports, and there are even organized classes offered which teach watercraft safety. Best of all, they are free of charge! You'll want to pack a picnic lunch as there are no concession stands at Barrett Beach/Talisman. Be sure to include drinking water, snacks, and some clean-up bags, and always stoop and scoop anywhere you travel on Fire Island. There are picnic areas, playgrounds and human restrooms too.

Barret Beach/Talisman doesn't offer any amenities like restaurants, bars, lodging or shops, and is a pure beach area. You can walk, bike or take a water taxi to the other pawrific communities of Fire Island if you plan to stay longer than the day, but do be aware that each locale has its own dog rules.

If you're looking for your next great beach adventure away from the crowds, you will find seclusion at Barrett Beach/Talisman. Plan a visit for Fido and the whole family today. You'll have a doggone pawtastic time!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
