Description
Cape Disappointment is a 2,023-acre State Park located on the Long Beach Peninsula, about two miles southwest of Ilwaco, Washington. The gorgeous piece of land is fronted by the Pacific Ocean and looks into the mouth of the Columbia River. The park is named after Captain John Meares' first voyage to find the Colombia, which was thwarted when he couldn't find the river's entrance. You and your canine companion will be far from disappointed by this park and the beaches found here. The park features 27 miles of ocean beach, and plenty of trails with excellent views of the ocean, Columbia River and two lighthouses.

To make use of this park, you'll first need to obtain a Discover Pass. This is required for vehicle access to any Washington State Parks for day use. An annual Pass is $30, and a one day pass is $10. Cape Disappointment does have an automated pay station where you can purchase an annual or day pass upon arrival.

One of the favorite Cape Disappointment beaches to explore with your pup, is Waikiki Beach, near Fort Canby. This small but stunning beach is secluded, and only accessible at low tide. There are no lifeguards on duty. There is parking right nearby on Jetty Road. From this beach, you can take in views of the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, build forts out of driftwood, and watch the waves crash against the rocks. Your best pal will love romping around in the waves by your side!

Benson Beach is the most southern beach in Cape Disappointment. This lovely 2 mile stretch features the North End Lighthouse at one end, and the North Jetty at the other. Parking is available at the nearby campground. Trails weave in the old sea stacks near the north end, and there are caves to explore here too!

The rest of Cape Disappointment State Park has plenty to offer for humans and canines, including 8 miles of trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds. Doggos are welcome throughout all these areas, as long as they stay on an eight foot or less leash, and are picked up after at all times. Bring any essentials for a puptastic day out, including water to share and clean-up bags.

A day spent with their favorite human on the Cape Disappointment State Park Beaches is one your pupper won't soon forget!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
