Set on 140 acres on the Long Island Sound, the Dorothy P. Flint Nassau County 4-H Camp is a beautiful piece of property and shorefront that is available to the public for rent. Accommodating up to 200 guests, the property provides 20 cabins, a dining hall, infirmary, modern bathhouses, and educational facilities.Â
Beyond the necessities, amenities include fun activities such as a ropes challenge course, basketball court, tennis court, and, of course, the beach. For larger groups that are interested in stay-long catering, that is also an option.Â
The beach is accessed on the far end of the property, after traversing a heavily forested strip of land that provides privacy as you descend toward the shore. The beach is littered with driftwood, interesting shells, and other finds, perfect for the treasure hunter of your group. The sand is coarse and rough, more pebbles and rocks than fine sand. You are welcome to bring your own supplies and non-permanent fixtures to make the space your own during the course of your rental.
Dogs are welcome on the entirety of the property when renting it for your private use. However, still remain respectful to the property by ensuring your pet does not damage furnishings, buildings or the landscape. Clean up after your pet thoroughly and bring your own supplies for doing so.Â
When bringing your dog to the camp, pack all of the necessary gear for traveling with any pet. Even though leashes are not required, pack one just in case, at a standard length of six feet or less. Pack all necessary bowls, water and food, snacks, a pet first aid kit, and proof of inoculation. Double-check that your pet is up to date on all of their shots and medicines before an outing, including medications specifically addressing outdoor risks, such as flea and tick prevention.Â
