Durand Beach

Durand Eastman Beach is a little spot located on Lake Ontario in Rochester, New York. It's a very popular spot during the summer, both for your pooch, as well as the family! The beach itself boasts 5,000 feet of waterfront, with spectacular views to boot. While grills and glass containers may not be allowed on the beach, you and your pup are certainly welcome to take a swim. 

And also, feel rest assured - if any trouble arises, the beach is patrolled by lifeguards all summer from noon to six, guaranteed to keep the both of you safe! Just make sure to keep your dog leashed at all times, and your little pupper is free to frolic around in the sand and fresh water of Lake Ontario to his or her heart's content. Best of all, parking is free!

The beach is technically part of a larger park, the Durand Eastman Park, which covers about 1,000 acres of forests, trails, and more, that you and your dog can enjoy. You and your pooch may even be lucky enough to see some of the local wildlife in the area, including swans, turkeys, and even foxes! Additionally, feel free to ask locals from the area about some of the legends surrounding the beach and park, including the old ghost story about the White Lady. You may even spot her, if you and your pup are brave enough to make the trip! 

All in all, while you should probably keep your pup on a leash throughout your trip to Durand Eastman Beach, you'll be sure to have a great time - whether it's swimming in one of the Great Lakes, hiking around the trails leading to and from the beach, or maybe even catching a glimpse of a ghost, Durand Beach is a perfect spot to visit regularly with your pup!
