Wherever you go on the south fork of Long Island, it always seems like there's never a beach too far away. And if you're searching for a peaceful, dog-friendly beach to enjoy with your canine companion, Georgica Beach is well worth the trip.Â
Found in the village of East Hampton next to Main Beach, Georgica Beach is a popular haunt for dogs and their two-legged human friends. This wide expanse of sand showcases the best the Hamptons have to offer, including beautiful scenery and that distinctive, relaxed vibe you can only find by the seaside. It's also a lot less crowded than Main Beach, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding your own patch of paradise.
Unfortunately, like so many other beaches in the region, restrictions apply in the summer season for our favorite furry pals. From mid-May until September 30, you'll only be allowed to take your dog on the beach before 9 AM and after 6 PM. Once the summer crowds have departed and the pace of life in East Hampton returns to normal, you and your dog can explore this beautiful beach all day long. It's also good to note that the beach itself is only open on holidays and weekends from Memorial Day until the last Saturday of June. Then from June until Labor Day, the beach is open seven days a week.Â
There's plenty to explore for pooches young and old in this sandy pupperdise. Active dogs can run amok in and out of the water, and during peak periods there'll be no shortage of opportunities for your pet to socialize with other canines. If you prefer to tackle life at a slower pace, you and your dog can simply relax and enjoy a long walk along the sand.
Dogs are required to be under the voice control of owners at all times, and on leash whenever you and your dog are within 300 feet of a road end along the beach. Remember to be mindful of others and clean up after your pooch. Plastic bags for clean-up are conveniently provided at beach access points. Be sure to bring drinking water to share with your pooch, and any other beach essentials. To use the beaches in the village of East Hampton during the busy season between May 15 - September 15, you'll need to get a parking permit. For residences, these permits are free, but for visitors, they cost $300.Â
No bones about it, Long Island pups and their humans in East Hampton will love a day in the sun and sand at Georgica Beach!
