Hamlin Beach State Park
Whether you want to camp, fish, or just enjoy the beach, the Hamlin Beach State Park has you covered. With crystal-clear water and soft, sandy beaches, your family, including your pooch, will love spending the day at the Hamlin Beach State Park. Dogs are allowed in some areas of the park, and are restricted in others such as boardwalks, pools and spray parks, so pay attention to where you go with your pup.
The beaches here on Lake Ontario are pawsome, and are open from June 22nd to September 2nd. Note that dogs are not allowed on the guarded swimming beaches. They are, however, allowed on the two unguarded beaches. These are located east of Area 1 near the Car Top Boat Launch Site, and in front of Area 5 near the Devil's Nose and West Bluff. Areas of the beach are covered in large, slippery rocks, so be careful walking on or near those rocks, and never let your dog run or play on the rocks. Your dog must remain on a leash no longer than six feet on the beach, and everywhere else in the park, and have current vaccination and license tags. Be sure to bring all the must-haves for a pawsome day at the beach, including clean-up bags and water to share.
The are tons of trails you can hike with your dog before you hit the dog-friendly beach to cool off in the water. The Yanty Creek Marsh area offers a self-guided trail of about one mile with scenic views. There's over six miles of other hiking, walking, and biking trails to choose from as well. Grills, food, pavilions, picnic tables, playgrounds for the kids, restrooms, and showers by the water area are also available. You can also fish for salmon or trout in the lake. Enjoy a nice picnic or boating trip without worrying about leaving your pup at home.
Make it an overnight adventure and camp out in some of the dog-friendly campsites here. Dogs are allowed in certain areas of the campgrounds, where there is a two-pet maximum. There is an entrance fee to get into the park of $7.00 when the beaches are open, and only $6.00 when the beaches are closed. Campsites carry additional fees.
