Mau’umae Beach is a small beach located a mile away from Kawaihae Harbor within a small bay. The unique location means quiet water with minimal waves. The beach is accessible through an old road, and there really isn’t much around it. So, it’s fairly quiet.
This picturesque beach features white sand and calm water. It is regarded as a “secret” beach among locals, as well. Because of the calm atmosphere, it is a great place to take a swim or maybe try out snorkeling.
It’s also a wonderful place for families. Some reviews on Trip Advisor have mentioned that many people let their dogs go off leash on the beach, and they do not clean up after their dogs. Some have even mentioned dog poop in the water and dog hair all over the beach. So, if you’re taking your furry friend with you, you might want to be mindful of how they interact with other dogs. If they do not play well with others, this might not be the beach for you - just in case you do encounter other dogs off leash.
It’s unknown if poop bags are provided or available on this beach. So, it’s a good idea to bring your own if your pooch is tagging along. It is also important to make sure you have plenty of food, snacks, and water for your dog as it is unknown whether there is a place to get anything for them to eat and drink, close by. As always, it’s super important to be a responsible pet parent and make sure to watch your dog closely for cues. If they are hungry, tired, or don’t feel well, it might be time to head home.
This beautiful beach provides great views and a calm place to enjoy the scenery. Next time you’re in the area, check it out!
