It can be a bit of a walk but it's worth the trek. Bring a leash to keep your dog under control. You will find dogs running and playing on the beach off-leash. Be certain that your dog has good voice command, and always clean up after your dog. Do not bring a pup to the beach until all vaccinations are complete.
Park rules remind visitors to be respectful to marine life and wildlife. The lake is known to have tides and currents that can be dangerous. Be wise to the water conditions before entering the water. There is pay-parking immediately by the beach and free parking across the highway. The cove has lovely views of Lake Tahoe, kayakers, paddle boats, and the water sports of others.
If you are visiting the area, there are cabins in nearby Zephyr Cover Resort that will allow you to stay with your dog. Camping nearby can also be an option for the out-of-towner. One reviewer described this place as one of the last off-leash dog beaches in Nevada.
