Park Point Franklin Park / 13th Street South Beach

Looking to enjoy the furbulous beaches of Duluth without all the hustle and bustle? Then the Franklin Square/12th Street Beach is the pawfect place to visit with your pooch! Not only is this beach dog-friendly, but it offers spectacular views of the city while quietly tucked away on Minnesota Point.

The beaches on Minnesota Point, a peninsula connected to the mainland by the Aerial Lift Bridge, are known for their soft sand beaches on Lake Superior, and are pupular destinations for families in the summer, and year round. The 12th Street Beach is no exception, and offers shallow, cool waters and a long, sandy terrain your pup will love exploring. Located on the north end of the Minnesota Point peninsula, you'll find the entrance to the small parking area for this beach along Minnesota Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets. Across the street is a playground for the human kids in your family. 

Be sure to get there early, as the small parking area can fill up fast during busy times. Often known as Park Point Franklin Park/13th Street Beach, the 12th Street Beach can be found down a wooden walkway from the parking lot. Porta-potties in the parking area are great for the humans, but do be sure to bring clean-up bags for the pup, and always stoop and scoop.

While a lot of doggos love to run wild on the beach, pups should be leashed and well-behaved for the comfort and safety of all visitors. Bring a couple towels and catch some rays with your furbaby by your side. Or explore the sand, or take a dip in the water. The lake tends to be on the colder side, which can be too cold for smaller pooches. Bigger dogs love taking a dip on hot days! Bring enough water for both you and your pup, as there isn't any available at this small beach.
