Description

If you're searching for a dog-friendly beach on Long Island, Port Jeff Dog Beach is one of the best. The East Beach in this quaint little village offers a narrow strip of shoreline overlooking Long Island Sound, and pooches are more than welcome to join you on the sand and dip their paws in the water.

When the weather warms up during the spring and summer months, it's a gorgeous spot for dogs and their owners to spend some quality time together. The beach itself is always kept clean, and there's no shortage of opportunities for your pet to socialize with other dogs. The shoreline can be a little rocky in some sections but most pups don't seem to mind, and you'll come across lots of wagging tails and smiling, furry faces as you take a stroll along the beach.

Before visiting, make sure that your dog knows how to play nice and interact with other dogs, and remember that this area is not fenced in, so unless you've trained a reliable recall it's not a safe place to take your pooch. As always, show courtesy to others and clean up after your furry friend using the bags provided.

In terms of parking, there's a paid public parking lot or you might be able to find a spot behind the yacht club. However, parks tend to fill up quickly on the weekend, so you'll need to get in early.

Best of all, Port Jeff's reputation as a pet-friendly destination has spread far and wide, so why not make it a whole day out for you and your pooch? You'll find plenty of eateries, parks, and other attractions where dogs are welcomed with open arms. And if you're catching the ferry over to Port Jefferson from Bridgeport, your pet can join you for the ride.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
