The Ramones famously sang about hitching a ride to Rockaway Beach, but that's not the only reason why this wooftastic spot draws visitors year round! Located in the Rockaway Park community in the southern section of Queens, this furbulous beach welcomes you and your pup to enjoy a day in the sun!
Rockaway Beach has it all! With a vast stretch of sand on the Atlantic Ocean, and 5.5-mile boardwalk, there's a ton of space to walk and run with your beach pooch. There's also BBQ areas for puptastic outdoor meals, playgrounds for the little two-leggeds in your pack, and even public restrooms spread across the beach. A few spray showers also dot the space to rinse off the day's adventure.Â
For the sporty humans, check out the surfing area, skate parks, volleyball and handball courts, and a basketball court. When your tummy starts to rumble, you can find snacks near 86th Street, 97th Street, and 106th Street.Â
This pupular beach can often get quite crowded, particularly on warmer days, so you'll need to make sure your pooch is cool with crowds. As with most NYC beaches, your dog can roam the sand and walk the boardwalk, but are not allowed to get in the water. Lay out in the sun, or hike the entire span of beach with your dog, just be sure to do it from Labor Day to Memorial Day when its less busy. Dogs are prohibited from Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk during the busy season from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Keep your dog on a leash no longer than 6-feet at all times, and be sure to bring water and treats for your dog. Also have clean-up bags with you, and promptly pick up anything your pup leaves behind. Your dog should also be current on their rabies vaccination and city license, with proof on hand.
For a pawfect day out with your pup, explore the gorgeous coastline at Rockaway Beach!
