Saint Simons Island Beaches

St. Simon Island beaches provide you with miles of magnificent coastline in a largely undeveloped area. You can stroll along the sandy shores, take a swim in the cool waters, or wait until low ride and explore the tidal pools. Kitesurfing is a popular activity for the St. Simon Island beaches, as well as windsurfing and kayaking. You can enjoy gliding along the water and take in views of the passing shrimp boats further out in the Atlantic.

The beaches at St. Simons Island provide a wealth of opportunities for wildlife viewing. Sea turtles call the area home, including to nest. Make sure that you do not disturb any of the sea turtles, their nests, or the hatchlings, as harassing or interfering with these sea creatures can be punishable offenses. Cannonball jellyfish, which are harmless, are frequently seen in the area. Other jellyfish species may also be present, so it’s wise to avoid coming into contact with them, as some of them can sting. Dolphins regularly visit the waters near St. Simons Island. Birdwatchers can also keep an eye out for a variety of seabirds that call the area home.

Dogs are welcome at all of the beaches in St. Simons Island, though may be restricted to specific zones at certain points of the year. If you bring your pet to the beach, they can enjoy romping on the sandy beaches and even going for a swim, all while being off-leash. You do need to keep a leash with you at all times and always maintain full control over your pooch (either with voice commands or a leash) for the duration of your stay.

If you do swim while at the beach, or allow your dog to enjoy some time in the water, be aware of rip currents, which are common in the area. They can easily sweep swimmers away from shore, including your furry companion. Additionally, you must have baggies with you to remove any pet waste. This keeps the beaches clean and ensures everyone can enjoy the pristine shoreline.
