Sandy Island Beach

Sandy Island Beach is located in Pulaski, New York. The beach is within a larger state park that includes many different hiking trails, scenic views, and places to walk. The park is dog-friendly as long as you keep your dog on a leash at all times. Sandy Island is popular with the locals, but the beach and park rarely feel overly crowded. The beach is not huge, but it does provide plenty of sandy areas to roam around and lots of water frontage for your dog to swim and splash in. 

At the beach, you will find picnic tables for eating and relaxing. People love to fish, canoe, and kayak on the waters as well. In the summer months, the beach has a lifeguard on duty. It does not appear that the beach has restrooms, showers, or any kind of fresh drinking water available. The lack of amenities might be a turnoff for some people since there are many other beaches in the area that provide these essential facilities. 

Dogs are not allowed on the beach during the day, but during the offseason and once the park closes, you are allowed to bring your dog to the beach. You must leave the beach before the sun sets. You also have the option to bring your dog to the beach before the park opens as well. Many locals like to do this so their dog can have some fun playtime at the beach when there are significantly fewer crowds.

There are no poop bag stations by the beach, so make sure to bring your own to clean up after your dog. Cleaning up their business keeps the beach clean and beautiful, just the way it should be. Also, remember to bring your dog some cold drinking water so they can rehydrate after they have finished running around and swimming in the water. You must keep your dog on a leash on the beach and in the water. 

Overall, Sandy Island Beach is a good option for locals looking to take their dog for a quick trip to the beach early in the morning or late in the evening. If you are looking for a more inclusive beach experience, you are better off seeking an alternative beach.
