Seaview is a quaint, seasonal, residential community located in the heart of Fire Island between the communities of Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park, stretching from Surf View Walk to Superior Avenue. While Seaview is one of the few strictly residential communities of Fire Island, the market, liquor store, and nursery are available to visitors. Best of all, Seaview is dog-friendly!
Fire Island is a car free destination, with bikes, water taxis and legs as the main transport from place to place. Ferries from Bay Shore bring residents and guests over daily during the busy season, and can also transport your pup for an extra fee. Some communities on Fire Island have year round residents, but Seaview only operates from April to November, and closes down completely during the winter months.
While dogs aren't allowed in any public buildings, they can stroll the walkways with you, on leash of course! And for those beachcombers out there, the ocean beach at Seaview also welcomes your pup. The beach can be found down any of the side streets stretching to the south of the island. Most Fire Island beaches have strict rules for those wanting to enjoy the sun and sand, and Seaview is no exception. The community asks that you keep any food, grills or drinks other than water off the beach. Dogs can roam the sand and enjoy the surf with you on leash at all times, and only during times when Lifeguards are not on duty, which is generally before and after the peak times of the day between 10 AM and 5 PM. There's a catch for swimming with your pup too, as swimming is only allowed in Lifeguard protected areas, and for good reason! The waves on the ocean side of Fire Island have been known to be dangerous, so enjoy frolicking in the waves that crash on the shore, and don't venture in far. Also note that dogs are not allowed on the beaches at all during the months of March and April due to the Brant geese that migrate there.
Anywhere you travel with your pup on Fire Island, always be sure to have the essentials for a puptastic day out. This includes water to share with your pup, and clean-up bags, and always stoop and scoop. Since there aren't too many amenities in Seaview, including any on the beach, visitors can check out restaurants, bars and stores available in the other public communities of Fire Island, such as neighboring Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park.
For a puptastic time in a quaint summer community, head to Seaview for beach fun with your pup!
