Description

If a day of surf and sand sounds doggone amazing, bring Fido and the fam to visit South Beach. The most pawpular beach in Staten Island, you can hop on the ferry in Lower Manhattan and be on South Beach's sandy shores in no time at all. You won't have any trouble locating this pawsitively amazing seaside retreat as it sits directly south of the famous Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in the East Shore region of Staten Island.

Your doggo is welcome to join you year round on the boardwalk of this pawsome beach, but Fido must remain leashed at all times. The South Beach boardwalk consists of 2.5 miles which connects it to nearby Midland Beach, giving you and your pooch the chance for a barking great workout, and not one, but two pawtastic beaches to explore!

You can bring your best canine pal with you to play along the sandy shores of South Beach between October 1st and May 1st. Fido must remain leashed along the coastline as well. Though your main canine squeeze is not permitted to swim at South Beach, you will find Fido doesn't even notice as he'll be too busy enjoying the other fun things to do at this puptastic beachside haven.

South Beach is renowned for its pawrific sunbathing opportunities and is also a furrific place to build a sand castle, or for Fido to pawfect digging a hole to China! You can also pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on one of the many benches or even along the shore. Don't forget to bring along some cleanup sacks and drinking water too!

One of South Beach's most pawpular attractions is its unique fountain which prominently features six dolphins made of bronze. The fountain is endowed with colorful lights. You won't want to forget to bring along your camera as between the pawrific scenery and the beautiful fountain, you have the ideal location to snap some photos of Fido and the whole fam having a ball! South Beach is also home to one of Staten Island's most beloved fishing piers which is known as the Ocean Breeze. You and your pooch can while away the hours hoping to catch a few fish for your lunch. Just be sure to pack a few treats for Fido to enjoy, so he isn't tempted to much on your bait!

New York state by-laws do require that all pooches out in pawblic places be current on their rabies vaccination. It is also mandatory that your doggo have a city dog license. Be sure to carry proof of both with you.

Looking for a terrierific spot to spend the day? Stop in to visit South Beach. You'll be doggone glad you did!
