One of the smaller beaches on the Long Island Sound, Wading River Beach also offers swimming lessons for residents for a small fee. There are restaurants located nearby, making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon during the summer. The beach is on Creek Road off North Wading River and Sound roads in the heart of Riverhead.Â
While there may not be as much shoreline as other area beaches, Wading River offers stunning views of the sound and is known for the large rocks that can be seen right off the beach. Trees stretch up the hillside behind the park, offering some protection from the elements, especially on those windy days.Â
Throughout the summer, Wading River Beach is full of families, couples, and individuals with umbrellas, towels, and tons of beach toys. If you do decide to bring your four-legged friend on the weekend, it is recommended that they are kept on a leash to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time.Â
Please be mindful of others and clean up after your dog, too! There are many times when Wading River Beach is secluded, providing a great setting to walk your dog and take in one of the area's spectacular sunsets.Â
