Description

Big Hart Campground is a public campground located nearby the 70,000-acre J. Storm Thurmond Lake in Thomson, Georgia. The campground was named after two creeks, The Big Creek and the Hart Creek, as it sits by their meeting point. With over 1,000 miles of shores and beaches to explore, the campground’s location provides the patrons with the perfect base point for swimming, fishing, boating and water sports. Plus, since the campground is pet-friendly, the four-legged family members are welcome to join in on the fun of the wilderness getaway.

The cozy campground is surrounded by hardwoods and fragrant pine trees that provide an ample amount of shade and add on to the charming atmosphere. The campground features over 31 spacious, secluded, single-family sites and a group site, all of which have 50-amp electrical hookups available. Fees start at $24 per site and each site has its own, large picnic table, a grill, a fire ring and a hook for lanterns. The campground features flush and vault toilets, hot showers, and drinking water, which is all you really need to have a good time camping without worrying about hygiene! There is also a playground, a boat ramp, a dock, a beach, and a dump station.

Several nature trails run through the wooded areas nearby that are great for hiking, picnicking and exploring. There is plenty of wildlife that can be encountered, especially around the shoreline, from wild turkeys and deer to bald eagles and migratory waterfowl. Make sure to keep your dog leashed at all times to prevent any accidents and to keep everyone safe. For those who prefer fishing, Thurmond Lake is stocked with bass, catfish, and bream and there are fish cleaning stations at the campground.

The campground has decent cell phone service, but just in case, there is a payphone available at the campground. To add even more comfort points, checkout time is 2 PM, which means you get to wake up to the sounds of birds chirping without having to rush to pack and leave the grounds. Aside from the setting, what makes this campground special are the incredibly helpful hosts, who not only keep the campground well-maintained but are also always there make sure you are having a good time.
