Covering more than 14,000 acres in Putnam and Dutchess counties, Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park offers a quintessential camping experience for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you want to swim, hike, paddle, fish, ski, watch wildlife, or camp, this big and beautiful park has got you covered. Even better, it's a park you can share with your canine companion.
There's so much to see, do, and experience in Fahnestock State Park that it can be hard to know where to start. For example, you might want to strap on your hiking boots and explore the park's extensive network of hiking trails, or take a boat out on Stillwater or Canopus Lake to try your luck fishing. Kids will love visiting the park's Taconic Outdoor Education Center, while wintertime visitors will feel right at home while exploring 20 kilometers of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails in Fahnestock Winter Park.
However, the highlight for many visitors is the beach and swimming area at Canopus Lake. This large stretch of sand is hugely popular in the summer months, with rowboats also available to rent.
A $7 vehicle entrance fee applies at Clarence Fahnestock State Park, with camping costs ranging from $15 to $19 per night. The pretty campground is found along the park's natural rock ridges, and each of its 80 sites provides privacy and tranquility.
The good news is that pets are permitted on all campsites. Dogs are also permitted on trails as long as they're kept on a leash no longer than 10 feet. Please note that pets are not permitted on the beach or in picnic areas, and you'll need to take care to clean up after your furry friend whenever required.
Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park is a nature refuge with something for everyone. Whatever type of pet-friendly camping vacation you've got planned, you'll find what you're looking for in this wonderful park!
