Description

Leave your cares and worries behind when you pitch a tent or roll your RV into Coho Campground, a lakeside wilderness tucked away in the Olympic National Forest.

This is camping in nature with a canopy of conifer and maple trees for shade. Three yurts that sleep up to six people offer a unique opportunity to camp on the edge of the Wynoochie lake in a structure that Is Turkish in origin, with a canvas top and trellis-style woodwork. There's a little more luxury here with electricity, bunk -beds, and a balcony that looks onto the lake.

The camp features restrooms, water for drinking, picnic tables, fire rings, and paved roads for easy access to individual sites. Holidaymakers looking to spend quality time in a forest hideaway will be counting the hours when they can pack up the RV and head to Coho Campgrounds. There are no RV hook-ups to electrics, sewer, or water but there is a dump station at the camp. You won't need a radio as the sounds of the forest are hypnotic.

Open all year round; the busiest times are May through to September when folks come from all over with their kids and the family dog. The campgrounds are pet-friendly and prefer pooches to be on a leash and looked after by their owners who are responsible for picking up their waste. Kids will love playing with their dog out in the forest where the only noise is the sound of birds singing in the trees.

Wynoochie Lake is a great place to cool down in the summer heat or go kayaking on the water. There’s plenty of fish in the lake with anglers hoping to score big with rainbow trout and whitefish. If you’ve come to hike the trails - Forest Nature Trail is a half mile walk through the rainforest with sign-posted points of interest along the way. If you want to see wildlife, the best times in the forest are at dusk or dawn.

Coho campgrounds have around 46 sites divided into A and B loops with a paved boat ramp for easy access to the lake. The grandiose setting of forest and lake soothes the soul from the moment you arrive. Spending time in a secluded forest with mountainous views and a crystal lake has to be heaven on earth
