Description

A crystal-clear lake filled with bass and trout, sunsets that melt into forested mountain peaks, peace and quiet -- if that is how you would describe your ideal camping location, look no further than the Forked Lake Campground in Long Lake, New York. This remote oasis sits on the east shore of the Forked Lake and is the definition of wilderness camping with lots of privacy, gorgeous nature around, and the basic amenities. Best of all? Furry, four-legged family members are welcome at the campground -- as long as they remained leashed and cleaned up after during their stay.

The tent and RV campground offers 80 spacious sites, all of which are wooded with plenty of shade and privacy. There are only three RV sites, and they can hold RVs no longer than 20 feet. Some tent sites are accessible on foot while other more secluded ones can only be reached by boat, which can add even more excitement to your wilderness adventure. Pack everything you need onto a canoe and glide across the gorgeous lake or to a small remote island with well-maintained but ungroomed sites. Each campsite has its own fire ring, bear box, and outhouse and most overlook the 1,248-acre lake.

While campers are welcome to bring their own boats, there are rowboat and canoe rentals available at the campground, as well as a boat launch. This is not only convenient if you want a more secluded site off the beaten path, but it's also great for fishing for the trout, bass, and perch that fill the lake. Just be sure to have a fishing license as they are no longer sold on-site. The campground is a haven for water lovers, but that does not mean you and your canine companion won’t get to enjoy some scenic trails and exercise. The easy, three-mile Forked Lake Trail starts right at the campground, while the six-mile Owls Head Mountain Trail is semi-steep and forested, and it will lead you to a restored fire tower where you can enjoy breathtaking scenery and sunsets.

Forked Lake Campground is the pawfect place for thrillseekers and those who love exploring the great outdoors.
