Description

Home to two stunning glacial lakes amid upland forest, Green Lakes State Park might just be one of the prettiest destinations in the New York state park system. Located 10 miles east of Syracuse, it's also the ideal spot for a pet-friendly nature getaway.

The park's main attractions are Round Lake and Green Lake, two meromictic lakes that support a diverse array of plant and animal life. Fishing and swimming are two popular pastimes in Green Lakes State Park, but some visitors will be happy enough to simply sit back and admire the lakes' sparkling clear waters.

Please note that if you're planning on taking a boat out on either lake, the sensitive ecological balance of their waters means that no private boats, kayaks, or canoes are permitted. Instead, rowboat and kayak rentals are available from Memorial Day through Labor Day at the park's Boat House.

If you've packed your golf clubs, you might like to tackle the 18-hole Green Lakes State Park Golf Course. You can also go snowshoeing in winter, and there are 15 miles of trails for cross-country skiers to explore.

When you're ready to set up camp for the night, the Green Lakes State Park campground boasts 142 pet-friendly campsites and seven pet-friendly cabins. Pets must be kept on a leash of six feet or shorter when not confined to a vehicle, and your pooch is not allowed in the bathing areas. As always, remember to clean up after your dog whenever necessary.

There's an $8 vehicle entrance fee, and camping costs vary from $18 to $36 a night, with an additional $5 nightly charge for visitors from out of state. Cabin rentals are available for $108.50 per night.

Green Lakes State Park is a beautiful park that offers a wide range of recreational activities. You and your dog will have a grrr-eat time exploring everything the park has to offer, so make sure you check it out if you ever get the chance.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
