Located just south of Bismarck, North Dakota, this tranquil spot boasts everything you need for a memorable doggy camping trip.
Hazelton Recreation Area sits on the Missouri River's east bank on Lake Oahe, which means that it not only offers excellent water views but also easy access to a host of water sports. This massive lake is some 231 miles long and draws visitors from far and wide.
During your stay in Hazelton Recreation Area, you might like to go fishing to target the many species of fish that call the lake home, including walleye, pike, and yellow perch. A boat ramp and accessible boat dock are provided, with water skiing and a variety of other types of boating are all popular pastimes. And during the summer months, it's the ideal spot to take a refreshing dip and cool off.
The Hazelton Recreation Area campground features 18 primitive sites and 12 sites with 50-amp electrical hookups. Picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets are provided, but there are no showers. A playground is also available to keep younger visitors entertained. A non-electric site will set you back $12 a night, while electric sites cost $16 per night.
Pets are welcome in the campground, provided they're leashed and under control at all times. As always, it's essential that you take care to clean up after your pet and properly dispose of their waste.
If you want to experience the best that Lake Oahe has to offer, and if you want to share it all with your canine companion, add Hazelton Recreation Area to your shortlist of pet-friendly camping destinations to check out -- it's well worth a visit.
