Description

Mary Island State Park encompasses 12 heavily wooded acres in the St. Lawrence River in Jefferson County, New York. Located at the eastern end of Wellesley Island, this beautiful spot offers a unique and secluded camping experience for dog owners and their furry friends.

However, before going any further, we should point out that Mary Island State Park is only accessible by boat from the following spots:

  • Dewolf Point State Park (2.5 miles over water)
  • Grass Point State Park (4 miles over water)
  • Keewaydin State Park (2 miles over water)

Once you get there, you'll find a sleepy campground, several hiking trails, and spectacular views of the Canadian shoreline. You can beach your boat or moor it near the campsites before setting out to explore this lovely little park.

Boating, fishing, and picnicking are the main activities in Mary Island State Park, which charges a $6 entrance fee. There are rocky outcrops offering excellent water views, while 11 waterfront campsites are spread around the island.

Because the park is only accessible by boat, these campsites are obviously only suitable for tents. However, the good news is that the campground is pet-friendly, so you can bring your pooch along for a relaxing weekend getaway or a longer stay.

Just make sure that you're fully aware of all of the park's rules before visiting with your pet. For example, you'll need to have proof of your pet's current rabies vaccination, either in the form of an inoculation certificate or dated collar tag, and your dog will need to be kept on a leash of six feet or shorter. As always, cleaning up after your dog and properly disposing of their waste is a must.

If you can do that, there's nothing else to stop you enjoying this beautiful state park. Mary Island State Park offers a unique camping experience on a unique location, so why not check it out with your four-legged friend?

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
