Description

A sleepy little park in Schoharie County, New York, Max V. Shaul State Park offers a tranquil, pet-friendly camping experience in a beautiful setting. Though it's only a relatively small area, covering just 70 acres, this pretty state park is a grrr-eat spot to escape the rest of the world for a few days.

The well-shaded park boasts a quiet picnic spot, a scenic nature trail, a softball field, and more. Fishing is permitted in nearby Panther Creek, while wintertime visitors can bring their skis for some cross-country skiing.

During your visit, make sure you also make the short trip to Mine Kill State Park. located nine miles to the south. This second park is the site of Blenheim-Gilboa Reservoir, Mine Kill Falls, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and several miles of hiking trails.

Please note that while Max V. Shaul State Park is open for day use and picnicking all year round, the campground is only open from June to October. Camping fees in Max V. Shaul State Park range from $15 to $19 a night.

The wooded campground features 30 tent and trailer sites, scenic picnic grounds, playing fields, and a kids' playground. It's a small and secluded spot where you and your canine pal can simply enjoy getting away from the daily grind and immersing yourself in nature.

If camping with your dog, please note that a two-pet maximum applies per site. Your dog will need to be caged or on a leash of no longer than six feet, and you'll need to be able to provide proof of their rabies vaccination. Dogs are not permitted in buildings, and you'll also need to remember to clean up after your furry friend at all times.

Max V. Shaul State Park offers a simple yet memorable camping destination for anyone who loves the great outdoors. If you're looking for a pet-friendly camping spot that's easily accessed from Albany, this pretty little spot is well worth a closer look.
