Located in gorgeous upstate New York, the Merry Knoll 1000 Islands Campground rests on a channel of the St. Lawrence River. You can watch from your campsite as ships sail by on their way to the ocean. The 1000 Islands are a favorite summer vacation destination for many New Yorkers and visitors from the surrounding areas.
As it’s upstate New York, the campground is only open from May to October and the nightly rates are adjusted for peak periods. Rates start as low as $34. In addition to RV sites, there are cabins available for rent as well as tent sites. Dogs are not allowed in cabins, though.
Aside from being literally steps away from the St. Lawrence River, other amenities found at the campground include a sundeck, a swimming pool, and fishing pier. There are several activities for children, such as a playground and game room.
Let’s not forget about your four-legged children! The Merry Knoll campground allows pets, but they must be pre-approved. There are breed restrictions in place, and so-called aggressive dog breeds, including Pit bulls and Rottweilers, aren’t accepted.
Dogs must remain on leashes at all times. While there isn’t an area just for pets, Fido will enjoy the abundance of green lawns and woods to explore. The nearby Cedar Point State Park has plenty of space to explore and is just a short 7-mile drive from the campground.
If you’re looking for adventure outside of the grounds, Uncle Sam Boat Tours offers several daily cruises. The boats leave from Alexandria Bay, which is a tourist destination all its own.
Perhaps the most famous part of the 1000 Islands, the Boldt Castle is a must-see for anyone visiting the area, and many of the boat tours make a stop at the castle on Heart Island. The campground is also close to the Canadian border if you would like to take a day trip out of the country.
The 1000 Islands and Alexandria Bay are immensely popular places to visit in New York. If you want to camp at right on the St. Lawrence River, give the Merry Knoll 1000 Islands Campground a try today!
