Take an unfurgettable stroll among the world's tallest living things when you and Fido visit the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve! Just 3 miles north of Guerneville, this 805-acre site is home to a puptacular coastal redwood grove, attracting countless visitors who wish to see these magnificent trees up close.
Armstrong Redwoods is a remainder of the beautiful redwood forests that once covered much of coastal California before logging operations began in the 19th century. These pawsome trees rise to 200-250 feet tall, grow to 12-16 feet in diameter, and live to be 500-1,000 years old. The reserve is a furrific place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend some time in the serene outdoors with your four-legged pal. Be sure to stick to the main paved road though, as the nature trails are off-limits to furry guests.
Still, visitors say it is worth stopping by with Fido. The paved road makes for an enjoyable walk, and your pooch will definitely delight in all the new sights and smells around them. If you'd like to check out the park's main attractions, such as the oldest tree in the grove, you'll have to come back some other time without your pup, as these are located along the nature trails.
Be sure to keep your best friend on a leash at all times and clean up after them! Pack some food, too, so that you and your pooch can enjoy a picnic in the dog-friendly picnic area. Fido is also allowed at the Bullfrog Pond Campground in Austin Creek State Recreation Area, which shares the same entrance as Armstrong Redwoods. There is no fee to enter the reserve on foot or on bike. If you drive into the park, a fee of $8 per vehicle applies ($7 if you're a senior).Â
