The name Barkin Dog Park at Barton Park in Lompoc, California is a tongue twister to say, and the name reads like a typographical error. But it's not a mistake; it's actually a really nice dog park. The 1.5-acre park was taken from a corner of the already established Barton Park, and the name was given by the many community volunteers who campaigned for the creation of the park.
These same volunteers later donated money and labor to create the first dog park in the city. All of their efforts resulted in a park that is truly a dog person's dream. The park is large and well maintained. It's popular with locals, and your pup is sure to find playmates. The park and is divided into a small and large dog section.
Elderly and disabled dogs are also welcome in the small dog section. Both sides of the dog park have plenty of seating in the form of benches shaped like bones, which look as adorable as they sound. The dog park has grass, with a gravel path around the perimeter of the large dog enclosure.
The Barkin Dog Park caretakers warn that both sections of the dog park have broken ground, with a lot of hillocks and bumps, so you are advised to be alert when walking through the park. The small section has scaled-down agility equipment for the little dogs, and the section for regular dogs has kiddie pools in the summer.
Both sections of the park are kept well-supplied with poop bags and extra toys, both supplied by volunteers. Because the dog park has grass, dogs can pick up mud and dust and get quite dirty. Just outside the park gates is a dog wash area so you can clean up your puppy before heading home. And the park is located just off the parking lot, so it will be easy to get there.
