Located in South Medford off of Barnett Road, Bear Creek Park is a 110-acre park that features many different activity options. In addition to the two separate fenced off-leash areas, which includes a smaller section for small dogs, Bear Creek Park offers walking trails, little league fields, tennis courts, an outdoor amphitheater that hosts concerts during the summer, a BMX track, and a 25,000-square-foot skate park.
Located along Bear Creek and Lazy Creek, the park has options for most outdoor-goers. The 2-acre off-leash dog area offers one smaller fenced section for small dogs and a larger area that has both sandy dirt and plenty of grass.
There is a dirt path around the perimeter of the dog area, which is also partially shaded. There are a few picnic tables for seating and potty bags are provided. Buckets and baby pools are available during summer months, but you should always make sure you bring plenty of water for yourself and your dog.
The park can be difficult to find, as there is no direct access from Barnett Road, the main road that passes along the south side of the dog park. Parking is available from Alba Drive, where Bear Creek Greenway passes over the creek, or from Highland Drive. The parking in the area is a ways away from the actual fenced dog areas, so be prepared to walk a little way to get to there.
As with any dog park, be courteous to other guests and always pick up after yourself and your dog. Don’t bring puppies younger than four months, females in heat, or any kind of dog with previous aggression problems. Make sure your dog is current on all vaccines. Young dogs and puppies are extremely susceptible to illnesses and you may end up paying costly vet bills. It’s safer to avoid the park until your dog is old enough.
In Southern Oregon, Bear Creek Park is a popular spot for people and their four-legged family members.
