Is your pooch looking for doggy friends in northwest Denver? Then bring them to Berkeley Dog Park for some off-leash play and socialization! This canine hangout is frequented by many four-legged Denverites and may just become your pup’s favorite spot in the city as well.
Located inside Berkeley Lake Park, Berkeley Dog Park has separate areas for high-energy woofers and mellow canines. Both areas are fully fenced for everyone’s safety and have a pea gravel surface to keep paws clean, especially during rainy or snowy weather. The dog park is maintained by volunteers who make sure that furry visitors have tennis balls to play with and fresh water to drink. Bring your own water if you’re visiting on the weekend though, as they sometimes run out. Bags are provided as well, but anyone is welcome to donate and help keep the dispensers stocked.Â
Pet parents can watch their furry charges from the benches scattered around the park or the pavilion near the entrance. Aside from the pavilion, there isn’t much shade, so it’s best to visit early in the morning or in the evening during the warmer months.
If you have an extra energetic pup, you may want to take them for a leashed stroll on the main park’s Berkeley Lake Loop before you hit the dog park. The 1-mile paved path encircles Berkeley Lake, offering puptastic views of the area.Â
Whether you’re in the dog park or main park, make sure to always keep an eye on your pooch and clean up after them. Note that a Denver dog license is required to use any of the city’s dog parks; a one-year license costs $15 and can be acquired from the Denver Animal Shelter in person, by mail, or online.Â
