Located in Columbus, Ohio, the Big Walnut Dog Park was one of the first off-leash areas in the city. Since its opening, it has become a very popular destination among two- and four-legged residents for a variety of reasons. The three-acre dog park consists of two fenced-in areas which are secured with a double-gated entry system to prevent dogs from slipping out. One area is meant to accommodate small dog breeds, while another enclosure is for the larger hounds.
Pet parents appreciate the fact that the Big Walnut Dog Park is well-lit, which is very convenient since it is open until late in the evening. The trash cans are always empty while the dog waste bag dispensers are always full, and patrons do their best at tidying up after their dogs and keeping this park clean.
The off-leash area is covered in grass and is well-shaded by the tall, mature trees that grow throughout the park. However, playtime does get muddy after rainfall so make sure to bring a towel to clean your pooch’s paws. Bringing your own water and bowl for your dog is also a good idea since there is no water fountain on-site. Seating is usually not a problem as there are several picnic benches that pet parents can relax on while they watch their dogs. There's also a portable restroom available by the dog park.
If your four-legged buddy is extra active you can take them on a leashed stroll by the lovely pond outside the fenced-in area or try the lighted walking trails that run throughout the main park, as well as the woods and wildlife area. Be sure to clean up after your pup and be mindful of others, whether you're in the off-leash area or main park.
