When in Half Moon Bay, a visit to the Blufftop Coastal Park is a must. Situated right on the coast, this park is a pawfect combination of wide open trails and beach. Since Blufftop Coastal Park is home to Poplar Beach, this park is also known around town as Poplar Beach Park. No matter what you call it, you’ll find this slice of heaven between Half Moon Bay State Park and the lovely Wavecrest Open Space.
Start your visit to the park by strolling along the Half
Moon Bay Coastal Trail. It stretches across a coastal terrace prairie and
offers puptacular views. This paved path is a pupular dog walking destination.
It’s super impawtant that you do your part to keep the trail smelling fresh by picking
up after your furry friend, so always have clean-up bags on hand. The trail is also frequented by cyclists, joggers,
and strollers, so help your pal yield as necessary. There are several unofficial dirt paths that veer
off the main trail and wind around the top of the cliff. Let your pooch be the
guide as you discover a new route. Don't furget to tote along some water to share.
Perhaps the best part about this park is the beach
access. Dog friendly beaches are hard to come by in these parts, so this is a
pupular hang out for the local beach loving canines. Dogs are supposed to be on
leash, but you’ll see plenty that aren’t. Whether they are on leash or off, your pal can
splash in the waves or dig in the sand. Since there are also horseback riders
enjoying the beach, make sure your pal minds their manners. While there is no
admittance fee to the beach, parking costs $2.00 per hour or $10.00 for the
day. Â
Spend an afternoon here and your dog will
pawbably give you a big kiss of appreciation!
