The Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is located in Castaic, CA and is right off of Lake Hughes Road. The park is massive with several acres of land along the shore. It received it’s designated state standard because it is the largest reservoir in the State Water Project.Â
The State Water Project provides drinking water for more than 23 million people throughout California. This park takes pride in conserving clean water and keeping the area clean. At the very least, please take care when going into the lake and throw away poop bags or trash whenever possible.
It is one of the biggest recreational lakes within the project allowing clean boats and jet skis into the water upon passing inspection. There are two bodies of water designated for different types of activities. The lower lake is for canoeing and anything without a motor while the upper lake is home to boats and fishing.Â
The Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is great if your pup loves to hang out on the pontoon during a day of catching some sun and fish. The water is full of bass, trout, and catfish. No need to worry if you don’t own a boat or fishing gear because they are available for rent upon request.Â
If life on the water doesn’t thrill your pup, Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is also home to hiking, biking, picnic areas, and playgrounds. The grounds around the park boast a gorgeous view of the lake and mountains, so there’s never a dull moment while you and the pup walk around.Â
This place is especially fun for large groups so it could be a fun place to plan a dog meetup. As long as the pooch is under control, dogs are allowed on or off leash. Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is fun for those who like an adventure or those who prefer to chill. There’s something for everyone, dogs included.
