Castlewood State Park

Castlewood State Park sits in Ballwin, Missouri. This 1,818-acre property traverses both sides of St. Louis' famous Meramac River, offering Fido and his family ample land to explore. In years gone by, this beloved park space provided the ideal location for partiers to spend a few hours enjoying their revelry. 

Today, it remains a family and dog-friendly recreational area that is well-renowned for its verdant, fertile valleys, making it a favorite destination for those who love to hike and mountain bike. Castlewood State Park permits dogs to join their owners in all areas of their facility, but they must remain on a lead. 

At this time, there's no specific area for dog play nor is drinking water provided. With this in mind, owners should come prepared with all of the things they will need for a day at the park including bottled water and poop bags. As with most state parks, Castlewood State Park requires all owners to assume responsibility for cleaning up after their pets.

Castlewood State Park is a public recreational area. Entrance is permitted to the premises at no cost. Among the many outdoor opportunities at this beautiful facility are hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, and fishing. With over 17 miles of trails leading over terrain that is at times very rocky and ravaged by the elements, there is ample ground to keep even the most avid hikers busy. 

Though there is water access at this park, the river's currents are swift and dangerous, and several have lost their lives attempting to swim there. For this reason, swimming is not recommended. Also housed on the grounds are barbecues, picnic shelters, bathrooms, and a boat ramp.
