If
you're looking for a quiet spot where you can enjoy the rural side of
California with your pup, look no further than the Chesbro Reservoir
County Park! Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains,
this 232-acre site is just minutes from the cities of Morgan Hill and
Gilroy, making it a convenient choice for a quick getaway. Located
right off of Oak Glen Avenue, it also
makes for
a great
pit stop where you and your pooch can take a break and stretch your
legs during a long car ride.
As
the name implies, the park is home to the Chesbro Reservoir, which
was formed from the damming of Llagas Creek in
the 1950s.
In addition to augmenting the valley's water supply, the reservoir
serves as a fishing spot, so you and Fido might see a few people
casting their lines into the water while you're there. You'll
find a boat launch area next
to the parking lot near the dam, but the reservoir is sometimes
closed to boating, so always check with the park office or website
before heading down with your watercraft.
There
are no designated trails within the park, but there is ample space
for you and your furry pal to take
a leisurely stroll and get some light exercise. The scenery is
beautiful, too—be sure to take in the pawsome views of the water
and surrounding mountains! There aren't any picnic tables, either,
but don't let that stop you from packing a picnic, which you and Fido
can share at the shoreline.
Like
most Santa Clara County parks, Chesbro welcomes four-legged visitors
as long as they are on a 6-foot leash. Of course, don't forget to
clean up after your canine companion, so be sure to have bags on hand. Note that shade is limited in
the area, so bring sunscreen and plenty of water!
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon with your pooch at the Chesbro Reservoir County Park!
