The Del Mar Park is a large, 9-acre park that caters to the local suburban neighborhoods surrounding it. Contained within is the Jody Giannini Family Dog Park, a 1-acre fenced in an area specifically for canine companions. Created in 2011, the Jody Giannini Dog Park was funded by both the Giannini family and the "Morro Bay Pups," a local canine-centric organization that aims to promote safe and fun dog ownership in the city.
The dog park itself promotes an off-leash policy as long as your dog stays inside of the fenced areas. There are large amounts of green space inside for your dogs to run around, with regularly maintained grassy areas. There are two main areas within the dog section, one for larger canines and one for smaller friends.
Plenty of shady trees line the waterfront views, giving this quaint little section a very scenic feel. Local reviews love this park for its reliable water sources and how regularly it seems to be maintained. Park policy is posted at the gates, and all dogs must be current on vaccinations as well as licensed to their owner prior to entry.
The larger Del Mar Park contains several amenities such as basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and a newly built children's play area. Installed in 2007, this area is complete with several large playing structures as well as a zip line and rope climbing structure. Several walking trails are available as well, with waterside views regularly punctuating your journey. The main park is extremely dog-friendly, provided that you keep your animal leashed at all times.
Parking is available for free at the south end of the park, with preferred parking near the northern end available for $2 a day. Portions of the park are available for rental, including the dog park. The Del Mark park's registration office is staffed 9AM to 3PM, from March 1st to September 1st.
