Description

Named for the overwhelming amount of fossil evidence and unique geographical features contained within, Dinosaur Valley State Park has been serving up historical hiking views to the community for over 60 years. This park rests on over 1,500 acres of land and boasts a wide array of activities throughout the year.

The main attraction for visitors here is the abundant fossil collection, some of which can be seen still partially embedded in the cliff faces. Several year-round classes exist highlighting this fascinating component of the park's history, most of which are offered for free. A fully staffed visitor's center also exists, where several samples of the fossils found over the years are on display.

Day-use picnic areas are available for rental, as are group picnic pavilions with built-in fireplaces. Please note that these units have no access to electrical outlets, and generators can only be brought onto pavilions and other park property with express permission from the Texas Park offices.

If you are into cycling, there are several local events hosted on the cyclocross trails here throughout the year. More information can be found at the park offices located at the main entrance. Canines are prohibited from these trails during cycling season.

Another great offering from this park is the Paluxy River Amphitheatre, a 150-person capacity stage built along the banks of the Paluxy River. Often home to kids' musical performances come summertime, during the spring months there are classes hosted in conjunction with nature walks available for a small fee. More information on these classes specifically can be found through the Glen Rose Visitors Bureau website.

Overall, this park doesn't do very much to cater to dogs. Canines aren't allowed on any of the public buildings, nor in or around the motels, cabins, screened shelters, group facilities (like picnic pavilions), or any public restrooms. Park officials are especially strict about cleaning up any waste your canine may make, so if you're coming here for a nice walk make sure to bring bags for your trip.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
