Dog Island Park, otherwise known as Samuel Ayer Park, is not a dedicated dog park as there is no off-leash section of this park. The paths here and the waterfront areas are dog-friendly, but the park requires all canines to remain on a leash at all times. You and your canine will walk across beautiful bridges and through immaculate wooded areas. The trails here are lovely.
There are many excellent walking trails through this park, plenty of pathways to get a pleasant walk in for those that live nearby to the Dog Island Park. For non-residents and people passing through the area, off-leash dog parks are available elsewhere in Red Bluffs. These trails are shared with bikers and joggers, so it is best if your canine is trained not to engage.Â
Many of these trails are off the paved path and make for tight spaces while passing. The Dog Island Park has many activities for all the patrons of the park. The waterfront area of the park hosts fishing activities in the river. Large pavilions are placed in several locations which house picnic tables underneath, these make for a great place to gather for large events and groups of people.
Near these pavilions, you will find barbeque pits and fire pits for cooking. This park also has public restrooms. These are open year-round. This park is gated shut in the evenings after the Dog Island Park closes. Mature trees provide a good amount of shade throughout the entire park. A disc golf course provides an attraction which brings in a lot of people on sunny days.
Some sections of this park, around the picnic tables and pavilions, are lit areas and stay open late into the evening. The gate to this park closes at 9 PM each evening. The waterfront area of the park gets quite dark after sunset. Overall, the Dog Island Park makes for a great place to bring your canine to enjoy a sunny day and a long walk through the park.
