Description

In South Texas, Falcon State Park is home to one of the best freshwater fishing lakes in the region. A beautiful escape from the cold for visitors and local wildlife alike, the park is busiest during fall and winter months but offers outdoor activity options year-round. Visitors to Falcon State Park may engage in camping, fishing, swimming, bird watching, water skiing, boating, hiking, geocaching, or simply enjoying the mild climate.

Visitors to Falcon State Park may fish in the 84,000-acre Falcon International Reservoir on the Rio Grande. Fish normally found include largemouth bass and catfish. The lake offers a boat ramp and cleaning station. Fishing from shore does not require a fishing license. If you’re interested in staying overnight, the park offers campsites and shelters, as well as pull-through campsites with water, electricity, and some with sewer hookups. Water-only sites are non-reservable. There are also some premium screened shelters with air conditioning.

The park is open daily; the gate is open between 6 AM and 10 PM. Reservations can be made in advance through the park’s website or by calling the park office directly. Admission to the park is $3 per day for adults, and $5 for holidays. Children under 12 may enter the park for free.

As with all Texas state parks, dogs are allowed in most campgrounds and trails, but are not allowed inside any buildings. You should always maintain physical control of your dog; keep them in a crate or on a leash no longer than six feet at all times. Be aware of posted signs that may indicate areas where dogs are not allowed, and always be respectful of campground and trail rules.

As with any state park or recreation area, make sure to clean up after yourself and your pet. Make sure your dog is current on all vaccinations, and it’s never a good idea to bring unvaccinated puppies, females in heat, or aggressive dogs with you. If you’re in South Texas and looking to escape the cold of winter, or just escape for a weekend, Falcon State Park is a great place to visit with your family and furry companions.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
