Gizmo Land Dog Park and the Joaquin Miller Dog Park can both be found in the Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, California. There are ample vehicle parking spaces adjacent to the dog park. The two components of this dog park are both spacious areas which have been designated by the Oakland authorities for exercising dogs off their leash.
The Joaquin Miller Dog Park is the section for exercising large dogs and Gizmo Land is the area reserved for exercising small breeds under twenty-five pounds. This does not apply to puppies under four months of age, who are not allowed access to the dog park. Elderly dogs are also permitted in the small dog section.Â
Both sections are completely enclosed with waist-high chain link fencing and have secure double gated staging areas. They are bordered by thick woodland, but there are no trees inside the perimeter fencing of either section of the dog park. Both off-leash areas are surfaced with dirt and bark chippings. There are also large tree trunks laid on the ground for extra doggy entertainment.
Pet owners must keep their dogs leashed until fully inside either of the off-leash sections. Owners are limited to exercising no more than three dogs at any one time. All dogs using either facility are required to be licensed and vaccinated. It is not permitted for dogs to be left unattended in the dog park. All dogs must be kept under close eye contact and respond to voice command.Â
There are no water fountains or spigots at the park so owners should take bottles water and a drinking bowl for their dog. Poop bag dispensers have been installed but bag supplies can often be depleted. It is recommended owners always carry their own supply of poop bags as it is obligatory to clean up all faecal matter immediately. Containers for the disposal of used bags are provided on site.Â
