The Ha Ha Tonka State Park encompasses a total area of 3,680 acres located in Camden County in the state of Missouri. You can find this park about five miles southwest of Camdenton, off US 54, on Highway D.Â
There are several features that make Ha Ha Tonka State Park a unique place to visit. First, the park contains beautiful terrain that is comprised of one of the state's best remaining specimens of savanna, as well as the remains of a huge stone castle. The park also has several picturesque geological attractions including views of the Lake of the Ozarks from high limestone bluffs. Furthermore, the Osage River Hills area are a definitive illustration of a topography known as ‘karst’ that is characterized by sinks, caves, large springs, underground streams, and natural bridges.
Besides these geological attractions, the park is a great place for visitors to enjoy recreational activities like hiking, backpacking, lake fishing, and nature programs. Some of the amenities in the park to facilitate these activities include two picnic shelters, picnic sites, a special use area, two courtesy boat docks for visitors who arrive by boat, and hiking and backpacking trails that cover a total of about 15 miles.
Visitors to Ha Ha Tonka State Park can bring their dog with them as long as they strictly follow the rules of the park. Some of the key rules regarding dogs include keeping them on a leash that is not more than ten feet long. Also, dog owners are expected to clean up after their tail-wagger. While dogs can enjoy campsites, trails and open spaces, they are not allowed inside any park buildings. Also, pups are not permitted to swim or be on any beaches, so keep them away from such areas. Ticks can be a problem in Missouri state parks, so be sure to take appropriate precautions.
