Hickory Park

Hickory Park is a furrific spot to take your best friend for their daily walkies in Torrance. Though not the largest park in the city at 5.8 acres, it contains spacious grassy areas and paved walking paths where you and Fido can stretch your legs.

Named for the adjacent Hickory Elementary School, Hickory Park is open daily from early morning to late evening, making it the pawfect place to take your pooch for a stroll before or after work. Since the park is often used by the school for various activities, you can expect to run into students and parents while you're there. Visitors say it also gets busy when school lets out, so you may want to avoid going there during dismissal time if you're looking for peace and quiet.

While the walking paths are flat and easy and should be no problem for healthy doggos, benches are scattered along the way if you'd like to sit down and take a break. The park also contains a picnic area where you and Fido can refuel with a packed breakfast after your walk. Located between the children's playground and lighted tennis courts, the picnic area has picnic tables, BBQ grills, trash receptacles, and shade-giving trees. There's a drinking fountain as well, but you'll have to bring a water bowl for your pooch.

Like all Torrance parks, Hickory welcomes four-legged visitors as long as they remain on a 6-foot leash and are cleaned up after. Doggie waste bags aren't provided, so be sure to bring your own. Keep in mind that while the park is generally dog-friendly, puppers are not permitted to set paw in the playground and athletic courts.
