The residents of Lakewood in California love their baseball, and they love their pooches too. The city has a pawtastic off-leash area in the Rynerson Park called The Home Run. Parking at the dog park is streetside and free. There's no charge to use the park either. All the park authorities ask is that you keep pup on their leash walking from your car until inside the security gate, have your fur pal neutered and licensed before you go, and leave all pup toys in your vehicle. Your fur buddy will socialize much better without them.
The Home Run Dog Park is a spacious two acres which has been nicely divided into individual zones for large and small pooches. The entrances to both are paved and the compounds covered with natural grass. They're kept pretty neat and tidy too. Trees in the off-leash areas are sparse though and well spread out, so there's not a lot of shade for the doggos when the weather is sunny. There are dog-friendly water fountains so they can lap up some refreshment if they get thirsty.
It's standing room only for pet parents as there is only one bench, but that's good because your pup, even though they're off-leash and intermingling, still needs your company. If you're close by, you can step in quick if any doggy mischief starts. Anti-social pups are seriously frowned upon, and needs to be nipped in the bud for the safety and fun of all.
The Home Run has been fully fixed up with dispensers, bags and trash cans. It's good dog park etiquette to clean up after your pup, and dispose in the nearest receptacle. If you do, you'll have scored major league points with the Home Run maintenance team! For a winning afternoon with your pup, head to the Home Run Dog Park!
