A great place to visit in the beautiful state of California has got to be the Hurkey Creek Park in the city of Mountain Center. It is part of the San Bernardino National Forest, and you will find this pup-friendly park a gem of a hike.
Finding the entrance is easy to Hurkey Creek Park on CA-74. A day use fee will apply with a $6 charge per adult, a $3 charge per child under the age of 12, and $2 for each dog. But the park is well worth the charge, and the fees help keep this location pristine and full of amenities. Park in the lot here and let the fun begin!
The amenities for you and your pup are endless. You can jump on the 4.5-mile trail here which runs out and back for a total of a 9-mile hike. You will be treated to wildflower fields in the spring, beautiful green grasses in the summer, and spectacular foliage in the fall from the numerous trees in this forest. This pawtastic trail is rated as ‘easy’ and therefore all pup-abilities are welcome here! Even the elderly guys will love this hike.Â
You can camp here in one of the many individual or group campsites for tent or RV camping for $25 per night, and a large meadow is the perfect site for a get together or game. Grills and picnic areas are available, as is a playground, making this a great place for the family. Fishing is also available in the lake here.
The park is best visited between the months of February to October. Restrooms are full service and include showers and can be found along with drinkable water. You can’t go wrong with anything you choose to do here as there are all pup-inclusive! Just be sure to keep your adventurous pup on a leash up to 6 feet in length, and clean up any waste.
